How to Break Twitter — Ellen Style

By March 6, 2014advertising

If you were one of the many people that were tuned into the Oscars on Sunday, then you witnessed some of the best Internet marketing you will ever see in your lifetime. Ellen DeGeneres hosted the Oscars and she broke an all-time record — with broke being the opportune word in this instance.

Ellen’s Internet marketing stunt broke Twitter. The daytime talk host broke the record for most retweets for one picture, which was previously 3 million by a photo tweeted by President Barack Obama titled “Four More Years.” It’s incredible what one selfie of a bunch of celebrities in primetime can do.

Want to be like Ellen and break Twitter? Maybe challenge her retweet record and see if you can beat it in Utah? Try these tips.

First you have to create a really good picture. Her picture had at least seven celebrities in it, which is probably more than what you can find in Utah. Next you need to make sure you have a good allotment of Twitter followers; it won’t get retweeted if you don’t have a lot of followers. Then you will need to go somewhere where there is a big crowd and announce what you are trying to do to everyone and convince them to help you out; Ellen had the benefit of hosting the Academy Awards. Last but not least, you tweet it the photo and hope for the best.

If all that doesn’t work, then in order Utah’s version of the ultimate Internet marketing stunt you need to become the Elle DeGeneres of Utah. Give it a shot; you never know. You could head up to Sundance when it’s in full swing and be the Utah citizen who beat Ellen and broke Twitter.

Or you could just hire Fusion 360, the marketing agency of the digital revolution.
